The East North-South Expressway is one of the trillion-dollar infrastructure projects that will be urgently deployed in 2022, opening up many opportunities for developing domestic freight and enhancing freight transport connectivity in the field of import and export goods.
The East North-South Expressway has an important position near National Highway 1A, running the length of the country. With the starting point being Huu Nghi border gate (Lang Son) to the end point being the ring road of Ca Mau city, the North-South highway passes through the nodes of Lang Son, Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Dau Giay, Long Thanh, Ben Luc, Trung Luong, My Thuan, Can Tho and Ca Mau.
“This is a very important project that needs to be implemented quickly and needs to focus on site clearance.” - Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized.
However, the period 2017 - 2020 went through with many efforts to improve, but it took a lot of time and there were still many outstanding issues. Therefore, in the period 2021 - 2025, it is necessary to speed up progress, especially paying attention to the ability to disburse investment capital to meet the goal of "by 2025, basically completing The East North-South Expressway".
By the end of 2021, many components of The East North-South Expressway have seen remarkable changes in construction progress. The most prominent is the Mai Son - National Highway 45 project, followed by the Cam Lo - La Son and the My Thuan bridge project.
In particular, according to the Transport Construction Quality Control and Management Bureau (CQLXD - CLCTGT), the Cao Bo - Mai Son project alone has reached 95% so far and is urgently completing the construction of items. The remaining 15.2 km long section of Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway (connecting Ninh Binh - Nam Dinh) is expected to be open to technical traffic in January 2022 to serve the needs of freight transport during the Lunar New Year.
Mr. Le Trong Thanh - Director of the Department of Transport of Ninh Binh province said that Cao Son - Mai Bo is not only the first project to be opened to traffic in 11 component projects of The East North-South Expressway but also the first project to be completed according to the schedule set by the Ministry of Transport and the National Assembly in the period of 2017 - 2020.

The East North-South Expressway is expected to bring many positive effects to transport and import-export activities. Typically, the volume of domestic freight and passenger transport will both increase, time will be shortened and costs will be reduced. According to current statistics, logistics costs such as logistics, warehousing, ... of our country account for about 20% of the total GDP, so the importance of reducing freight rates will contribute to reducing production costs, increasing competitiveness for our products, and nation.
Moreover, the demand for domestic and import-export goods on the North-South transport corridor is increasing day by day, exceeding the transport capacity in road, waterway, and air for many years to come. The presence of this expressway opens many opportunities for domestic enterprises to remove all barriers, provide more efficient logistics services, and compete in the domestic and regional markets.
